Rules
Design, build and race your own miniature sailing boat in our Tiny Boats Competition.
Race your miniature boat over 40 fathoms (that's 240' to landlubbers) of the River Avon – the course might be longer or shorter depending on weather conditions at the time!
Building Rules:
Participants must build their own environmentally responsible boat, primarily from paper, cardboard or newspaper.
1 x wooden dowel will be permitted max length 18”
The use of tape or mechanical fixings, (e.g. staples, cable ties etc.) is not permitted Boats must be no larger than 18" high, 12" long and 8" wide.
All boats must display their name and be decorated in any colour the builder fancies with pencil, crayon, felt tip.
Boats must be wind-powered (no motors!).
Racing Rules
A maximum of one boat per entrant is allowed to race. However, a boat may be built and raced by more than one person.
The course is to be set by The Race Officer on the day.
Boats must stay in one piece and not disintegrate. Those which do fall apart will be deemed to have Retired.
Boats which capsize will also be considered as Retired.
The first boat to complete the course in accordance with these rules shall be considered the winner.
Protests: if there are any will be heard by a quorum of sailing committee members.
Prizes will be awarded for design and speed in four categories:
Apprentice (primary school age)
Able Seamen (secondary school age)
Officers (adult under 50)
Ancient Mariners (adult 50+)
